Soccer in Iraq

Courtesy of the ever-useful du nord, I read a happy-sad item on what soccer means to Iraqis and how the game is holding up through the civil war.

The remarkable thing to me is that Iraqis get to play or spectate at all. Just thinking about attending a game - I mean, what a target - sends chills down my spine.

Who knows? Maybe soccer is the one thing all sides view as sacred.
