What Dempsey Did (Good Thing)

Somewhere in my ramble about Major League Soccer's (MLS) Week 23, I mentioned the slick move Clint Dempsey pulled at the top of the box (see the New England section). Turns out, I wasn't the only who noted it. Here's USSoccerplayer.com's Kyle McCarthy (LINK - more good stuff in there as well):

"Take a few minutes to look at the near-miss Clint Dempsey had in Columbus on Saturday night. A sublime piece of skill from the England-bound (at some point, one would think) American international allowed Dempsey to turn the defender and volley off the bar. Tricks like that make Dempsey the league's most valuable commodity.

If you want to take up McCarthy on his suggestion to take a look at the thing, here's one clip - albeit one that catches the move a bit late. The whole thing is easier to find on the full highlight reel on MLS's Sights & Sound page (look for the game between New England and Columbus dated 09/02).

As I said in that other post, Dempsey's one of the few cats in the league who can pull off this kind of thing.
