Emilio to DC U. (and a bunch of crap about Beckham)

It sounds like DC United found a pretty decent forward in Luciano Emilio. While it's not surprising that the people who signed him have great things to say about his pace and (cliche watch) "nose for goal," his track record speaks for itself. And, yeah, he's not ripping up the world's top leagues - we are talking Honduras, after all - but he's doing well with teams that seem to cause us plenty of problems whenever Major League Soccer (MLS) teams play them in the CONCACAF Club Championship.

But the real question for today is how long we'll have to abide having every trade squeezed through the "Lens of Beckham." I mean, every mainstream news report I read on this trade (LINK and LINK), as well as a few I'm not linking to here, make reference to Beckham within the first paragraph. Only MLS's in-site report managed to give the Emilio signing the respect it deserves.

Maybe there's a bug up my butt. Speaking as a betting man, I suspect Emilio will bring more on-field upside to DC than Beckham will bring to LA. And there's some guy named David Mosse, who penned a high-brow hatchet job on Beckham for ESPN, who's probably squirming from the same bug.
